專業概況

The purpose of the PPA programs is to prepare competent, ethical and effective public, nonprofit, and health care managers and leaders to advance the public service.

Consistent with, and in addition to, established university academic performance and student conduct standards for undergraduates, those admitted, retained, and awarded degrees must possess and demonstrate academic and professional integrity in all activities to inspire public confidence and trust in public service. Students and applicants who violate academic integrity or professional ethical standards of behavior will be subject to the academic integrity procedures of the university. Such actions are, of course, subject to university review and appeal.

Undergraduate students without experience in public service or administration are required to complete a service-learning requirement.

Career Opportunities

The mission of the MPA graduate program is career preparation and development for policy & decision-making, managerial, and administrative positions in the public and nonprofit sectors. The program is especially responsive to regional government and nonprofit sector needs, preparing graduates for state and local managerial and public service leadership. MPA graduates go on to management and leadership roles in:

Requirements for Specialization in Health Care Management

Students interested in pursuing a career in health care management may elect to complete a specialization of three of the six courses: 1. HCA 5050 Manage Finance Delivery Health Care 2. HCA 5140 History and Context: U.S. Health Care 3. HCA 5360 CQI in Health and Human Services 4. HCA 6180 Health Policy and Policy Research 5. HCA 6610 Strategic Management in Health Care and Human Services 6. HCA 6620 Legal and Ethical Issues in Health Care or other courses as approved by the MPA Program Director

Requirements for Certificate in Nonprofit Management (Graduate Level)

An individual who desires to begin post-baccalaureate study in nonprofit management may apply for a certificate. Complete the following: 1. PPA 5190 Management in Nonprofit Organization 2. PPA 5200 Fundamentals of Grant Writing 3. PPA 5500 Contract Management 4. And at least two (2) of the following: PPA 4038 Public Policy Making Process PPA 5020 Program Evaluation HCA 6610 Strategic Management in Health Care and Human Services PPA 6110 Public Finance and Budgeting PPA 6860 Internship.
