專業(yè)概況

The School of Social Sciences and Education (SSE) has some of the most popular majors on campus, as well as nearly 70% of CSUB’s graduate and professional degree programs.

The Liberal Studies degree requires a broad-based liberal arts experience. Four of the five Liberal Studies emphases are designed to satisfy pre-teaching credential requirements. These emphases prepare students for passage of the subject matter examination that candidates must pass in order to receive a credential required to teach in grades K-6 in the public schools. Because the Liberal Studies teacher preparation emphases prepare students for a state licensed credential, requirements may be changed by state mandate at any time.

IBEST Emphasis

In the IBEST (Integrated Baccalaureate for Excellence in Studies and Teaching) emphasis, student’s complete courses in the Liberal Studies core curriculum and pedagogy courses in the Multiple Subject Credential Program (MSCP) at CSUB, enabling them to complete an integrated program of study in about four years.

ISPED Emphasis

In the ISPED (Integrated Special Education) emphasis, students also complete courses in the Liberal Studies core curriculum and courses in the Special Education Credential program at CSUB, enabling them to complete an integrated program of study in about four years.

Traditional Emphasis

In the traditional teacher preparation emphasis, students complete the Liberal Studies core curriculum and a minor or concentration in a discipline of their choice.

Subject Matter Authorization Emphases

Students in Liberal Studies with an Introductory Subject Matter Authorization emphasis complete the Liberal Studies core curriculum and an additional set of courses approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC).

Non-Teaching

The non-teaching Liberal Studies emphasis is called the General Track. Most students undertaking this degree option seek a baccalaureate degree and no credential later.
